Leguan Stelling to be fixed in 1 week – MPI

One Amid cries from residents and passengers about a recent incident where the lower ramp was broken at the Leguan Stelling, the Public Infrastructure Ministry has indicated that the structure will be fixed within a week.

Guyana Times understands that the structure collapsed on Monday after the piles broke. This resulted in much confusion after persons were forced to use another ramp which is considered the high ramp. As such, exiting and entering the island takes much longer since it is the only functioning medium to traverse the island.
Adding to that, heavy vehicles would usually use the lower ramp, but in recent days, persons with goods have desisted from using the said structure until it is fixed.
Acknowledging that the lower ramp is inaccessible to passengers, the Ministry noted that the Transport and Harbour Department was notified of the situation and engineers were later deployed.
While materials are yet to be sourced, assurances were made to have the ramp fully functioning within seven days.
“A team of Transport and Harbour Department engineers have been dispatched to the location to assess the damage incurred. This matter is being treated with extreme urgency as materials are currently being sourced and repairs are expected to be completed within seven days,” the Ministry stated.
