Action in the Georgetown Zone of the “Guinness Greatest of the Streets” futsal competition continued on Saturday evening and saw several nail biting games in front of a large crowd of spectators.
Among the winners on night two was Leopold Street who dispatched of tournament debutantes GTI Ballers by a comfortable 3-0 margin. Hitting the back of the net for the victors was Omallo Williams as early as three minutes into the game. However GTI Ballers rallied and held off Leopold Street until Tyrese Forde would put the game to bed with a “Guinness Goal” in the 17th minute to make it 3-0 Leopold Street.
Earlier Tucville needled Norton Street in the opener with veteran Delon Williams grabbing a goal in the 16th minute.
Kingston needed a Nigel Denny “Guinness Goal” to see off Festival City 2-0 with the scorer getting in on the act with the clock at 18 minutes.
A Daniel Ross dagger in the 12th minute ensured that Rising Stars got past Trap Squad to walk away with maximum points.
Also winning by the same scoreline was Queen Street Tigerbay who got past Stabroek Ballers courtesy of Rory Lewis in the eight minute.
The dangerous duo of Travis Grant and Eon Alleyne made sure North Ruimveldt secured a 2-0 victory over Smyth Street. Grant opened the scoring in the fourth minute while Alleyne cemented the win with his 15th minute goal.
A late goal from Randolph Wagner earned West Front Road an important win over Judgement Yard. Wagner’s strike came in the 16th minute.
After regulation time failed to produce a winner between California Square and Broad Street, it was the former who held their nerve to win 3-2 on penalty kicks.
An own goal saw Albouystown-A suffering a 1-0 loss to Bad-A-Yard who won their first game on Saturday.
An “edge of the seat” clash between homeside Albouystown-B and Back Circle went to penalty after both teams’ defences remained watertight in normal time. Penalty kicks were taken and Back Circle won 4-3 to break the losers’ supporters.
The third night of the competition will be on Tuesday at the Burnham Court, Middle and Carmichael Streets from 19:00hrs. (Michelangelo Jacobus)
