The Lusignan Golf Club (LGC) will be hosting a Phagwah/Holi Tournament in observance of the national celebration of the Hindu Festival of Holi. The tournament will tee-off at 12:30 pm with the Medal Play format of three Flights, with prizes for the first two places in each Flight along with Nearest the Pin and Longest Drive.
According to President of the LGC Aleem Hussain, “The LGC, whose membership includes golfers from each of the 3 main religious groups in Guyana, is pleased to observe this Festival with the togetherness and great camaraderie that normally exudes from the golfers as they play, practice or compete weekly, and hopes that just as we at LGC demonstrate unity, love and togetherness out of our different cultures, religions and ethnicities, our example will help to inspire many in the nation to realize that though from different backgrounds and religious persuasions, we as Guyanese can live, work and play together in harmony.”
Hussain also noted that two Pandits of national prominence who are long standing members, namely Pandit Haresh Tewari and Rabindranath Persaud – have served for years and continue to serve at LGC Executive level bringing the virtues of their faith, along with their foresight, and financial support, into the golfing arena, helping to cement national unity at this forum and continuing to help with the development of the sport.
The highly anticipated tournament will feature some of Guyana’s top golfers as they are continuously looking forward to the opportunity to show off the improvements they have been making during practice sessions and have their names etched in the winners’ row.
The public is welcome to come and observe the golfers in action at this exciting tournament and to also enjoy the great ambience of the LGC. For further information, persons interested in learning to play Free of cost, may visit the Club or make contact via 220-5660.
