The rainy season is prevailing in Guyana, and like many other sporting disciplines, golf has been affected by this development.

LGC Secretary, Chet Bowling

However, while this is so, the Lusignan Golf Club (LGC) is still open, and members can still go there to sharpen their skills as they await the end of the rainy season.
In an interview with this publication, LGC Secretary Chet Bowling was asked his view on the current season, and how it is affecting the activities of the club. His response is detailed below.
“Of course, we are all affected by the rainy season. However, while there are no tournaments, members still get to play a few holes. I was out there and was able to play. One thing is that, during this time, members use the down time to practice, as the greens are usually playable, and people usually practice their putting and chipping and (are) able to play a few holes.”

The LGC AGM is set for June 5, 2022

Bowling related that, with two to three days of sunshine and the excellent work that has been done by the staff on the course, it is his belief that the course can be playable. He also mentioned that, while at times the weather would affect the game of golf, the club also offers other games, such as table tennis, pools, and dominoes, which each play an important role in boosting camaraderie at the club.
Bowling also shared that, for the year 2022, there are some major plans on the club’s agenda. “We just have to hold out for the weather, but, you know, we have some major plans this year. We have our Annual General Meeting coming up on June 5. Most of the committee would probably be re-elected. We are looking to do things this year differently, so we can have a longer playing season in which the rain would not affect us. So, we need to improve on the fairways and raise them up, and (undertake) other general developments that would better our chances during the rainy season,” Bowling explained.
Pertaining to the sponsors, the LGC Secretary relayed that the club is extremely grateful to all those who have come on board during the past. He said there currently is one sponsor who is awaiting the end of the rainy season to sponsor a tournament. More importantly, Bowling has urged the sponsors to continue to stay on board, as great things are coming as the club works to fulfill its vision of transforming the LGC to world class standards.
