The Lusignan Golf Club, in collaboration with Oasis Cafe and Akamai Trading, will host a highly anticipated golf tournament this Saturday, and the action will commence at noon.
With some of Guyana’s top golfers being involved, the format of the tournament is match play, which will have two teams comprising 20 to 25 members.
“Within the team competition, you’ll also have a competition of individuals going up against each other.”

Co-Sponsor William Walker of Oasis Café (C) hands over the check to LGC Treasurer Maxim Mangra alongside LGC President (R) Patanjilee Persaud and LGC VP Paton George (Far left)

Speaking at a simple launching of the tournament, LGC VP Paton George noted that a lot of prizes are going to be awarded at the end of the format, hence everyone is encouraged to turn out and enjoy a very festive environment that is COVID-friendly.
Co-sponsor of the tournament and proprietor of Oasis Café, William Walker, said, “Let me say that I’m very thankful that the golf club is accommodating this format. If you don’t know too much about golf, match play is really a very pure form of golf. And it’s something that I enjoy, and I know that my opposite team captain, Brian Hackett, also enjoys it. I am a little disappointed not to see him here today at the weigh in, but we shall see how things turn out on the weekend. And of course, afterwards, we can have some good food, which is going to be provided by Oasis cafe. And also, some nice wine also from Oasis cafe. So I think it would be a good, good time, I also encourage members of the public to come out and watch and get into golf. It’s a very interesting game and something we want more people to be a part of.”
LGC boss Patanjilee Persaud was adamant of the fact that the tournament is going to be an exciting tournament as one can expect a very well challenged golfing tournament this weekend. He noted that it’s going to be very competitive as it is going to stand out as the best in the country is going to compete against each other. He further went on to state that an average of 50 players will be competing in the tournament owing to the fact that all Covid 19 measures will be in place.
The tournament will commence at 12 noon and those interested will have a chance to register until Friday when the registration closes. The winning team will pocket a $30,000 gift item that can be claimed at the club house, restaurant or bar.
