Lieutenant colonel on $100,000 bail after Linden fatal crash
A Lieutenant Colonel in the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), has been placed on $100,000 bail following a fatal accident which resulted in the death of 23-year-old motorcyclist, Kellon Summers of Central Amelia’s Ward, Linden, Region 10 (Upper Takatu-Upper Essequibo).
The accident occurred at about 01:40h on May 3 along Burnham Drive Public Road, Wismar, Linden.

According to police reports, the accident involved motor vehicle, PWW 2029, driven by a Lieutenant Colonel and motorcycle, CP 6059, which was being ridden by Summers. Police said that a breathalyzer test conducted on the senior rank showed BAC readings of 0.045 and 0.041 respectively. The legal driving limit in Guyana is 0.035.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the vehicle was proceeding south along Burnham Drive and was negotiating a right turn when the motorcycle, allegedly travelling at a high speed from the north, collided with the left front door of the vehicle.
Reports are that Summers, who was not wearing a safety helmet at the time of the collision, was thrown onto the roadway and sustained serious injuries. He was taken to the Linden Hospital Complex, where he was pronounced dead.
His body is at the Linden Senior Citizens Association Funeral Home mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Both the car and motorcycle involved in the collision have been lodged at the Wismar Police Station as investigations continue.
