Lightning fast Smith bags 7-fer in losing effort

In an encounter between two of the best teams in New Amsterdam Canje, Young Warriors and Tucber Park clashed at Cumberland Canje. On a brilliant day for exhilarating cricket, Tucber Park batting first was bundle out for 149. The openers Hakeem Hinds and Steve Deonarine failed to deliver as both batsmen was removed by former Guyana under 19 left arm spinner, Kasim Khan. The youth sensation Garfield Benjamin scored 21 but it was the number seven batsman Kwesi Mickle and number 8 Nial Smith who offered some resistance to the Young Warriors bowling attack. Mickle top scored with a composed 43 while former National youth player Nial Smith contributed with a useful 41. Berbice under 19 left arm spinner Trevon Stanislaus captured 5-25 as he spun webs all over the Tucber Park batting line up. University Trojan off-spinner Linden Austin supported with 2 wickets.
In reply Young Warriors lost Guyana under 19 batsman Alex Algoo to the lively Nial Smith for 8 runs but his opening partner Mohabir batted along beautifully with Linden Austin. The 150 looked out of reach for Young Warriors but they crawled to victory. However in pursuit of the target they lost 9 wickets with the speedster Nial Smith snaring seven wickets. The lively fast bowler had an outstanding all round performance but it was in vain as his team Tucber Park suffered another defeat in the BCB DDL 50 overs First Division. (Brandon Corlette)
