Limacol Football teams rewarded handsomely

The top teams and the various standout performers of the recently concluded second Petra Organised Limacol Round-robin Knock-out Football Tournament were presented with their prizes on Monday evening at simple presentation ceremony at the Brandsville Hotel, Campbellville.

Watched by a massive crowd at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC), Bourda, on March 4, Western Tigers won the riveting final against the Guyana Police Force FC 1-0 via a stunning free-kick from Collin Nelson.
For their unbeaten run in the tournament, Tigers copped the first place prize of $500,000 and the corresponding title while Police were awarded $300,000.
In the third place play-off between Santos and Linden’s Winners Connection, the latter won 5-3 on penalty kicks after the game ended 2-2.
The Linden unit won $200,000 while Santos had to settle for $100,000 and the respective accolades.
At an earlier presentation ceremony, the winner of each group received $100,000, while the 2nd, 3rd and 4th placed finishers were given $50,000, $30,000 and $20,000 respectively.
On the individual aspect, Police Force FC’s Quincy Holder was the highest goal scorer (4 goals), while Western Tigers’ captain Phillip Rowley was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) and teammate Troy Carrington was adjudged the best goal keeper.
Uitvlugt Warriors’ Jamal Harvey and Den Amstel’s Delon Lanferman had scored the fastest goal both netting in the first minute. In the 32 matches saw an average of 2.6 goals per match, 83 yellow cards and just two red cards.
Co-Director of the Petra Organisation Troy Mendonca in speaking at the ceremony contented that the winner of the tournament truly represented themselves with a strong desire to be victorious as throughout the entire tournament they were close matches among teams.
Mondonca added that the tournament was a hallmark of the organizers’ endeavor to promote the sport of football giving community based teams a chance to showcase their talents and for fans to enjoy.
On that note, Mendonca stated that a collaborative effort is needed by all in the football fraternity to move the sport forward, emphasizing the need for improved facilities.
The Co-Director also thanked the support of Banks DIH Limited under the GT Beer Brand, Trophy Stall, Star Party Rentals and also the numerous fans for their continued support.
Meanwhile, Banks DIH Public Relations Officer Troy Peters disclosed that the company “is extremely was pleased to be part of the tournament since they anticipated it would be a success due to the tremendous support it received.”
