Limacol Schools’ Football League: Bartica, Carmel, Chase win in Round 1
Schools’ football action made a highly-anticipated return on Sunday afternoon, as the NEW GPC INC sponsored- Limacol Schools’ Football League 2023 got underway.
Following the usual protocols and official kick-off that was done by NEW GPC Marketing Assistant Christine Samuels, Bartica and Christianburg Wismar Secondary were engaged in the first encounter of the seven-round League.
A Reiver Reid brace in the 53rd and 69th minutes, plus the opening goal of the game from Billy Smith in the 40th minute, handed Bartica a 3-0 victory.
Next, Carmel Secondary eased past Mackenzie High 2-0. The goals came early for the Digicel 2023 champions, as Shem James and Samuel Ferguson netted in the 9th and 11th minutes, respectively.
The fearsome Chase’s Academy had the biggest win of the day, thumping East Ruimveldt Secondary 6-0. Bevon Jones netted a double in the 13th and 20th minutes, while Bryan Wharton did the same in the 51st and 53rd. Justin Alcindor and Omar Same scored one goal each in the 35th and 60th to bring Chase’s tally up to 6.
The day’s proceedings ended with a nail-biting encounter between this year’s Milo champions Santa Rosa Secondary and Ann’s Grove Secondary.
Ann’s Grove took the lead first by way of a Naron Jerrick strike in the 11th minute, but Santa Rosa’s Reshon Campbell levelled the scoreline in the 57th. Time would eventually expire with the score locked at 1-all.
