Lime thief slapped with larceny charge

Singh, 52, (only name) from Anna Regina, Essequibo Coast, was on Thursday granted ,000 bail for stealing 20 limes from a farmer.

The Police are contending that on November 18, 2016, he stole 20 limes from Baidwattie Ramkishore’s farm. After hearing the charge, Singh, who is a known character to Police, pleaded not guilty.

In his defence Singh told Magistrate Sunil Scarce during his appearance at the Suddie Magistrate’s Court, that he did not steal the limes, pointing out that the lime tree was hanging over the fence so he simply picked it.

When asked why he did that he answered that he was thirsty and wanted to make “swank”.

Magistrate Scarce then asked Singh if he would ever change, since he was previously charged for similar offences but he had no answer.

He was released on $30,000 bail.
