Independence Day celebrations will be a lot brighter for two of the nation’s top athletes, who have become beneficiaries of Linden’s 50 Percent Independence Celebration Discount initiative.
No strangers to success, Daniel Williams and Chantoba Bright were, on Friday evening, greatly rewarded for their achievements, which have brought a sense of pride to the town of Linden.
The two athletes were each given a free plot of land at Amelia’s Ward, Linden, (Region 10: Upper Demerara- Berbice) by the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA). Minister within the Ministry of Communities, Valerie Yearwood, made the announcement to a packed crowd at Linden’s Independence flag-raising ceremony, which was hosted at the Georgetown minibus park in Linden.
Both of the teens were all smiles when they were summoned to the stage. Williams’s 50% has already been paid by Region 10 People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) Party Chairman Deron Adams, whilst Bright’s 50% will be paid by Minister within the Ministry of Natural Resources, Simona Broomes.
Bright and Williams continue to dominate the track and field circuit both locally and internationally. The pair also represented Guyana at the World Under-18 Championships in Nairobi, Kenya last year. Additionally, with wins from the National Schools Track and Field competition and the CARIFTA Games under their belt, they are both poised to represent Guyana on much larger athletic platforms in the future.
