An a move to follow through with plans to resign as Councillor within the municipality of the Linden Mayor and Town Council (LM&TC) should Mayor Carwyn Holland be re-elected, Councillor Lennox Gasper has stated his intentions to resign. Gasper, who served as Administrative and Legal Affairs Committee Chairman of the Council, has for months spoken out against what he deemed as “unlawful acts” of the Holland-led municipality. He has also publicly criticised countless decisions made by the re-elected Mayor and his manner of governance, which he deemed “egotistical.”
“I will be resigning from the Council,” Gasper stated following the Mayoral
Elections in the township on Thursday.
Discrepancies
Gasper also alluded to several discrepancies which he pointed out during Thursday’s elections. He went on to express shock that Deputy Town Clerk Orleena Obermuller, who was employed only a few weeks ago and who has not yet received her official appointment letter, was allowed to carry on the proceedings.
“Now she did not even finish her probationary period. All of that is unlawful. A Town Clerk has to convene that meeting according to 28:01. Miss Obermuller hasn’t even received an appointment letter as an employee of the Council. She is still in assessment period.”
Gasper also alleged that the Mayor had set the agenda for the elections and deemed the move as not acting within the confines of the law. Gasper said in the case of the elections, the law states clearly what is to be done in 28:01.
“I objected vehemently about it and it was overturned… These are the things that Councillor Gasper stands for, that they would from time to time want to do – railroad and override the law blatantly and they want to tell you when you stand up against it you are opposing.”
Gasper reaffirmed his passion for his community but opined that the Mayor seems
“more consumed with the span of his shadow.”
He said he trusts that the eight months serving in the position of Mayor would have thought Holland that it makes no sense dictating people in which their support is needed, adding that he needs to tone down his ego and settle down to get work done.
“This town needs forward movement… we have Councillors in position but they have no power, they have no authority. The law gives them power and authority but they use it based on the instruction and orders of those that give it to them and that’s the plight that we’re in… The Councillors are not comfortable, the intimidation, the threats, the fear of victimisation is so heavy,” he stated.
