The families of two babies born at the Linden Hospital Complex (LHC) on
Christmas Day are elated, given the significance of December 25, when the world celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ.
The two adorable bundles of joy are Leal Wilson, a boy, born to 18-year-old Phebe Charles of Wisroc, Wismar, and little Miss Royalty Joaquin , born to 22-year- old Lisa McDonald. Baby Wilson, who weighed 6lbs, 3 ounces made his grand entrance into the world at 17:00h on Sunday, while baby Joaquin, who weighed 8lbs, 6 ounces, was born at 12:26h.
Speaking with Guyana Times from the Maternity Ward of the LHC, both mothers were overjoyed as they shared the experiences behind their successful deliveries. Charles explained that several ultrasounds had predicted various delivery dates; however, the very first ultrasound had indicated
that she would deliver on December 25. This ultrasound, she noted, gave her a thrilling feeling and placed her in preparation mode for the delivery of a bouncing baby boy, her first child, on Christmas day.
“I started to get excited as the days started to wind down,” she noted with a smile.
The contractions began around midday on Christmas Eve, Charles explained, while she was deeply engrossed in her holiday shopping, in preparation for delivery the next day. Her labour quickly advanced and she was admitted to the hospital.
“I feel really nice about it,” she told this publication.
McDonald, however, noted that she was not expecting a Christmas Day delivery, according to medical information, she was due to deliver on December 9. She related that when her contractions commenced around 13:00h on Christmas Day, she knew then that her child would be a Christmas baby. This is McDonald’s second child, and although this experience was a painful one, the new mother was happy to have delivered on Christmas Day.
