A post-mortem examination conducted on the body of Linden labourer Akeem Davidson has confirmed that he died by drowning.
The examination was done by Government Pathologist, Dr Nehaul Singh, at the Memorial Gardens Mortuary, Georgetown, on Monday.
His body has since been handed over to his family for burial.
The body of the 20-year-old of Retrieve, Mackenzie, Linden, was recovered from a creek at Mabura, in Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice) last Friday, after he went missing during a swim with a friend on Tuesday last. According to Police, at about 14:15h on Tuesday, Davidson and his friend Sheldon Vanaco went to bathe at the creek located about 300 metres away from their camp. The said camp is also located about five kilometres away from the Mabura Police Outpost.
Reports are that while they were swimming, Davidson went down into the creek and did not resurface.
His friend told investigators that he shouted at him, telling him to “stop playing”, but 15 minutes elapsed and he got no response.
He then went back to camp and alerted their employer about what had transpired. They both went in search of Davidson but he was not found.
Police were later dispatched to the area in search of Davidson but the search came up empty-handed, until the discovery of his body on Friday.
