An autopsy performed on the body of Samuel DeSouza, of Linden who was initially suspected to have been murdered proved that he died from hypotension and gastritis.
The post mortem was performed government pathologist, Dr. Nehaul Singh at the Georgetown Public Hospital Mortuary. Dr Singh in his report concluded that the cause of death was as a result of hypotension and gastritis.
He further explained that the internal bleeding was caused by the frequent movement of the deceased, which led to hypotension. Dr. Singh added, that the hypotension was also caused by the deceased smoking, and consumption of alcohol.
At the time of the autopsy, alcohol was found in his system.
It was previously reported that Samuel DeSouza, a labourer of Victory Valley, Wismar Linden, Region Ten (Upper Demerara-Berbice), was found dead at his home. Police had suspected that the deceased was murdered.
At the time of the discovery, a wooden-handle spear was observed resting on the man’s body. Three knives and a screwdriver were found in the waist of his pants.
His mouth and right ear had what appeared to be blood. Police noted too that there were “superficial bruises” seen on the exposed parts of his body.
The body was escorted to the Linden Hospital Complex where it was examined by a doctor who pronounced him dead on arrival.
At the time of the discovery police had arrested a mother and daughter who were involved in an altercation on the same day with DeSouza.
