Linden man chopped after intervening in fight

A labourer of MacKenzie was on Monday chopped to his head and arm after he intervened in an argument between a woman and the suspect. The incident reportedly occurred at about 17:00h and the injured man is 36-year-old Keno Griffith of Old Kara Kara, MacKenzie, Linden, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice).
Based on reports received, the 26-year-old suspect and a female resident had a misunderstanding during which the man allegedly squeezed her breast. In retaliation, the woman spat on the suspect and as such, he got angry and threw a bucket of water on her.
Upon seeing the commotion, Griffith went to the woman’s assistance, thus leading to a heated argument between the now injured man and suspect. The argument, however, turned physical and it was at that time, the suspect armed himself with a cutlass and dealt Griffith one chop to his arm and one to his head.
He was taken to the Linden Hospital Complex where he was examined, treated and admitted a patient in a stable condition. Meanwhile, after committing the act, the suspect turned up at the Linden Police Station to report the matter and instead, he was arrested.
An investigation has been launched into the chopping incident.
