Police in Linden are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of 54-year-old Dwane “Levi” Williams also known as “Sweetie man” of lot 52 B Wismar Housing Scheme, Linden.
His body was reportedly discovered on a street at Wismar Housing Scheme on Friday morning with suspected stab wounds. Following the discovery, the police were summoned to the area and an investigation has been launched.
When contacted, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice) Commander, Superintendent Hugh Winter confirmed that Williams’ body was discovered by ranks with a gaping wound to the neck and another wound to the right wrist.
A resident in the area told <<<Guyana Times>>> that a blood-stained knife suspected to be the murder weapon was found in a drain a short distance away from the body.
While details surrounding the man’s death are sketchy, investigators suspect that the man who lived alone died sometime between Thursday evening and Friday morning.
According to a relative, the vendor visited his mother’s home at One Mile, Wismar, Linden, at approximately 21:00h on Thursday evening where he spent a few minutes.
Upon leaving, he reportedly told her that he was heading home to prepare his meal. The relative further stated that at about 05:45h on the day in question, the family received information that the deceased’s body was seen lying behind a shack.
Meanwhile, the man’s body was taken to the Linden Hospital Complex (LHC) for examination and further to the G Jetsco Funeral Home where it awaits a post-mortem.
Police said the area was canvassed for CCTV cameras but none were found. Ranks also questioned persons in the area but no useful information was received thus far.
Investigations are ongoing.
