Linden man jailed for illegal gun, narco possession
Twenty-three-year-old Lennox Leon Estwick also called “Swipey” was on Monday jailed for three years six months when he made a virtual appearance before Magistrate Wanda Fortune to answer to the charges of illegal possession of firearm, ammunition and possession of narcotics.
Estwick, of Lot 640 South Amelia’s Ward, Linden, was sentenced to three years on the first two separate charges and six months for the possession of narcotics. The sentences will run concurrently. Estwick was also jointly charged with his brother, 21-year-old Oneil Estwick, for the offences. The duo had pleaded not guilty to the offences during their first court appearance at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts. However, the younger Estwick was remanded to prison until June 8. Additionally, the younger Estwick is facing charges for harbouring his brother, who was wanted by the police.
Police in Linden arrested Leon Estwick, whom a wanted bulletin had been issued for since 2019, a little over a week ago. According to information from the police, ranks acting on intelligence swooped down on a house at Lover’s Lane, South Amelia’s Ward, Mackenzie, Linden, at about 00:45h on April 30. Ranks also discovered an unlicensed pistol, four live rounds of ammunition and ten grams of cannabis in their possession.
Lennox Estwick is also charged with the October 14, 2019 murder and robbery of Essequibo businessman Deon Stoll called “Mow”, who was shot dead during a robbery in front of El Dorado Trading at Da Silva Street, Kitty, Georgetown. He was scheduled to reappear in court on Tuesday in relation to this charge. Several other persons were also arrested in connection with the murder of the businessman, who was killed after being attacked in a vehicle by a group of armed, masked gunmen. The gunmen attacked Stoll and his driver just as he was about to enter the building to conduct business. Stoll, however, managed to return fire and reportedly shot one of the gunmen twice. His driver and a security guard at the business place were also shot and injured during the incident.
