Four persons were killed and three other occupants injured after a motor car allegedly travelling at a fast rate of speed crashed into the rear of a Guyana Defence Force (GDF) lorry along the Linden-Soesdyke Highway at Long Creek on Friday night, police say.
The accident occurred at about 20:45h on Friday, October 23, and involved motor lorry DFB 1788, driven by a 40-year-old resident of Paradise Village, West Coast Berbice, and motor car PZZ 8392, driven by Egburt Blair, of Half Mile, Wismar, Linden.
The dead include the driver, Blair, 55, and passengers Tevin Thompson, 30, of One Mile, Wismar, Linden; Dannel Darrell, 28, of Block 22, Wismar, Linden; and Eon Jarvis, 40, of Wismar, Linden.
The three injured occupants are a 43-year-old woman of Rainbow City, Mackenzie, Linden; a 45-year-old man of Block 22, Wismar, Linden; and a 40-year-old man of Green Valley, Wismar, Linden. The survivors were admitted to the Accident and Emergency Unit for medical treatment, where they currently remain.
Preliminary investigations revealed that motor lorry DFB 1788 was proceeding south along the eastern driving lane of the Linden Soesdyke Highway, while motor car PZZ 8392 was proceeding in the same direction behind the lorry, reportedly at a fast rate of speed.
The driver of motor car PZZ 8392 reportedly lost control of the vehicle and collided with the rear portion of the motor lorry. As a result of the collision, the driver and passengers of the motor car sustained injuries to their bodies and were transported to the Linden Hospital Complex.
Blair, Thompson, Darrell, and Jarvis were pronounced dead on arrival.
Investigations are ongoing.
