The annual Linden Town Week (LTW) event was officially launched in the mining town on Saturday under this year’s theme, “Reflect, refocus, moving forward with unity and strength for our community development”.
The Town Week will kick-off from April 22 to May 1. Vybz Entertainment Inc will continue with the execution of 10 days of planned activities under its third and final year as official franchise holder, in collaboration with the Linden Mayor and Town Council (LM&TC).
This year, Linden will celebrate 47 years as a town and 21 years of the Town Week event, which showcases the celebration of culture, sports, exhibition, entertainment and fete.
A preliminary calendar of events planned for the 10 days has been released and includes: Miss Linden Pageant on April 22; guided tours by the Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice) Tourism Development Association (RTDA) and Vybz Entertainment from April 22-30; Gospel Concert and Inter Primary School Spelling Bee Competition on April 24; and Health Fair and Fitness Walk, as well as Open Stage and DJs Night on April 25.
In addition, there will be the Guyanese Night and Open Mic, Senior Citizens Luncheon and ‘Big and Bold’ Pageant on April 26; Day of Sports, School afternoon concert and Mackenzie High School Fundraising Dance on April 27; Wismar Big Lime, Bikers Fete and Colour Party on April 28; Teen Zone and Hot Spot and ‘meet and greet’ Soca Fete from April 28-30; Linden Exhibition Festival from April 29-30; Vybz Regional All Black, Big Lime and Internati
onal concert on April 30; and the Washdown on May 1.
New activities have also been added to the calendar, while a few fresh faces have been added to the Vybz Entertainment Inc team. Serving in the capacity of Chairman of Vybz Entertainment Inc is Winston Caesar, who assured that this year’s event will be one with a difference.
Executive Member of Vybz Entertainment Inc Damuka Ngqondo, who also chaired Saturday’s event, said the team is working hard to promote this year’s activity as it tries, with the help of the community, to make the event an extraordinary one.
Meanwhile, Regional Chairman Renis Morian, in delivering remarks, said he was never impressed with the activity over the years, but indicated that a certain aspect of this year’s theme appears to give new meaning. He urged that Vybz Entertainment Inc lift the barriers on packaging the activity and expand its focus to do more for the community apart from the LTW.
Patrons were also assured of strict security and enhanced parking measures, during the hosting of LTW. Organisers have also pledged to give back to the community in a meaningful way, upon completion of the 10 days of activities.
