Linden woman slapped with fraud charge

A 41-year-old Linden, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice) woman was slapped with fraud and damage to property charges before being taken to the Linden Magistrate’s Court.
Latoya Light of 36 Stewart Path, Christianburg, Wismar, appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman on charges which stated that she obtained two payments of $40,000 from Denny Neblet in October 2018 by pretending that she was in a position to sell a plot of land to him.
The second charge stated that she damaged the VC’s chain-link fence valued $5000. However, the self-employed single mother denied the charges. She was represented by Attorney Leslyn Charles, who made an application for reasonable bail. The Attorney noted that her client has been cooperating with the Police since the charges were instituted. The Magistrate set bail for the charge of damage to property in the sum of $20,000 and on obtaining monies under false pretense to $40,000. The cases will continue on December 19.
