Linden youth critical after slamming motorcycle into house
A Linden youth is in critical condition at the Linden Hospital Complex after he lost control of the motorcycle he was riding and it slammed into a house at Block 22, Wismar, Linden.
This publication understands that the accident occurred at approximately 9:00h on Thursday a short distance away from his Block 22 home,
and 19-year-old Eon ‘Junior’ Patterson was rushed to the LHC, but was subsequently transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
When contacted, the young man’s sister told Guyana Times that she had asked him to purchase an item at a nearby shop, but she was unaware that he had intended to utilise her fiancé’ motorcycle, which was parked under the house.
She explained that it was not until shortly after he had gone downstairs that she heard him starting up the motorcycle. After some time had elapsed and he did not return home, the young man’s sister said, she started to call out for him.
“I stand up here looking to see where he deh, and I shouting for he, and me ain’t hear he answering. And I stand up down there, from here you can see the road, and I see he fly past with the bike. I said ‘Junior!’ I see he speeding…and all I hear is ‘bladdam’ and I see a set of people running. And this lady over here she called me and she said, ‘Ulti, your brother!’ And I hear everybody start screaming and calling for me…. He lost control and he run into dem people house over deh,” she explained.
She said that after realizing what had happened, she sent her sister to the location; and she returned to tell her that their brother was lying outside the house in an unconscious state.
“He ride the bike and like he run into the house and fall down. He pitched off the bike and roll over and knock he head. At the said time it get a pickup that was passing, and dem boys flag the pickup and carry he to the hospital. They say like blood keep gushing out he mouth…”, she continued.
According to this sister, her brother was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, and she noted that if he had picked up the helmet from inside the house, she would have known his intentions and would have prevented him from leaving with the motorcycle.
Relatives of the young man rushed to the hospital following the incident.
Owner of the house, Marlyn David, related that she was inside the flat, concrete house with her children at the time the young man crashed.
“The children were in the room and I was at the sink. So then I hear this big impact and the house shake. So I wondering what happened…then I run out here. When I come outside, I saw him lying down on the ground and the motorbike into the house. It stopped there and he lie down off of the motorbike and blood start coming out he mouth and he body start twisting up. So then I hollered for help and the boys dem on the road come in and assist”, the woman related.
She also pointed out that this is not the first time an incident of this nature had occurred at her Lot 569 Block 22 home. However, she said it was the first time that the house was hit. She noted that given that the house is situated in an area where three roads meet, it has been subjected to several incidents involving speeding drivers.
When this publication visited the scene, spots of blood were seen in the yard along with fragments from the motorcycle. There was also visible damage to the bottom front of the house.
Police visited the scene and removed the motorcycle. An investigation has been launched into the incident.
