Lindener dies in horrific highway accident

One person was killed and three others injured after the car in which they were travelling slammed into a lumber truck at Harauruni, along the Linden-Soesdyke Highway on Saturday.

Dead is Kevon John Newland, a father of three of Phase 2 Wisroc, Wismar, Linden. Those injured are the driver, Orin “Six Head” Rose; Shemron Niles and another female passenger who is yet to be identified.
Reports are the accident occurred at about 11:30h as motor car HC 6304, which was heading towards Linden, slammed into the truck which was reportedly turning onto the highway. This newspaper understands that taxi driver Orin “Six Head” Rose, who was the driver of the car, overtook another car and lost control.
The driver of the car which Rose overtook had reportedly slowed to allow the lumber truck to turn, but having overtaken that car, Rose slammed into the rear of the truck.

Public-spirited citizens managed to remove Newland and the other injured persons from the mangled car.
Rose, Niles and Newland were rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where Newland was pronounced dead on arrival. Meanwhile, Rose, who is hospitalized, is said to be in a stable condition while Niles, who reportedly sustained minor injuries, was treated and sent away.
According to family members, Newland, who operated a poultry business, was recently slated to travel to the United States but cancelled his trip due to the COVID-19 pandemic. At the time of his death, he was returning from Georgetown after purchasing a motor vehicle part in the capital city. An investigation has been launched into the incident. (G13)
