The Petra organized Limacol Football round-robin knock-out football tournament continued on Wednesday evening at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC), Bourda with Western Tigers and Grove Hi Tech eking out 1-0 victories over Linden teams

Eagles United and defending champion Milerock respectively. Both Linden teams were unbeaten until then.

Watched by a handful of boisterous spectators, both matches produced thrills at varying stages that kept the balance intact for most parts.

City side Western Tigers, who have acquired several elite players boasted a strong a line up which paid dividend as Andrew Murray’s Jnr leaping header inside the box in the 4th minute was the goal to set the two teams apart.

While the Tigers kept lurking for more goals, the Eagles kept their defence air-tight but it was the second half that saw a shift in momentum for the teams with talented left winger Kurt Johnson leading the Eagles attack. However, his constant solo attack was not enough to change the score line.

In the earlier match, Domini Garnett’s left foot shot from the edge of the penalty area, pulled off a stunning win for Grove Hi Tech in the 90th minute against defending champions Milerock.

Spectators waited until the end of the see saw match up for the winning goal which left them wanting more however they will have to wait until Sunday when the action continues.

The competition will roll into the East Coast of Demerara village of Victoria on Sunday for a double header from 18:30h. In the opening match at the Victoria Community ground it will be Mahaica Determinators battling Riddim Squad from 18:30h followed by Ann’s Grove against Pouderoyen.

The top teams are competing for a $500,000 first place prize while second to third will receive $250,000, $125,000 and $75,000 respectively.

In addition, the top teams in the groups will be rewarded $100,000, $50,000, $30,000 and $20,000.

Other than title sponsors Limacol, the organisers have also managed to gain the support of Bank DIH under their GT Beer brand, Star Party Rentals and Trophy Stall.

Admission to the venue is $500.
