Litterbugs charged, released on $30,000 bail

Relative to two posts made on a social media platform on Saturday last of an act of littering, ranks of Beterverwagting Police Station, East Coast Demerara (ECD) conducted investigations which revealed that the incident occurred at Chateau Margot, ECD.
As a result, two persons were arrested and charged.
Charged were 35-year-old Vijai Basraj of Le Ressouvenir, ECD, and 32-year-old Joel Primo, of Success, ECD. They were both arrested and charged by Police ranks from the Beterverwagting Police Station with the offence of Disposing Litter in a Public Way contrary to Section 3(1) of the Environmental Protection Act 1996.
Both men- appeared at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday before Magistrate Alisha George where the charge was read to them separately and both pleaded not guilty.
Bail was granted in the sum of $30,000 and the case was adjourned to March 22.
A week ago, two persons – a man and a woman – were reportedly arrested by Police for illegally dumping garbage in the city.
The litterbugs were arrested by City Police and handed over to the Guyana Police Force. They were identified as two employees of Zulu Connections located on King Street, Georgetown.
The duo was arrested for dumping garbage on King Street, Georgetown.
Video evidence was provided by a concerned citizen, which led to their arrest. They were each placed on station bail and scheduled to make their court appearance on February 8. (G9)
