Local archers now certified

The local archery fraternity was recently given a boost when domestic archers and members of Archery Guyana recently became certified as Level One coaches.
The eight-day course they attended ran from April 28 to May 6, and was facilitated by USA Level 4 NTS CT Coach and member of World Archery Americas Development Committee, Mr. Phillip Graves.

At the beginning of the course, Graves had expressed excitement at being a part of the course. “I’m extremely pleased. This truly is a National Coaching course because of all these people (attending) from different parts of Guyana. They all understand that what they’re going to learn here, they’re going to go back and teach to other coaches. That means it’s going to spread like wildfire,” Graves had told the Guyana Times Sport.
The course consisted of 19 participants hailing from Regions One, Four, Seven, Eight and Nine. At conclusion of the training programme, participants were presented with their Level One Archery certification, which has equipped them with the necessary tools to return to their communities to disperse the knowledge they had gathered over the past week.
This inaugural course has also been hailed as a success, since it laid the groundwork for the introduction of Archery to the National Schools’ Track and Field Championships. Hinterland students will participate in the new discipline come November of this year.
