A Guyanese man who was part of a group of tourists visiting Orinduik Falls on Sunday is feared drowned after he went missing at the popular tourist destination.
The man has been identified as Gladstone Haynes. He had boarded an Air Services Limited plane from the Eugene F Correia International Airport to the Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) destination.
However, at the end of the tour, it was realised that one person was missing and an alarm was raised. From all indications, the man went missing while swimming in the water.
Up to press time, his body was not located.
When contacted, Captain Emil Jahan from ASL stated that after the report was received, the relevant authorities were informed and a search and rescue/recovery operation was put into effect.
This was done in conjunction with the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) and the Guyana Police Force (GPF). He also added that the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) was also informed and would have launched an investigation.
