Logger killed by falling tree branch

A logger was on Thursday killed after a branch of a tree fell on him while cutting trees at Siparuta, Corentyne River, Region Six (East Berbice/Corentyne).
The dead man has been identified as 57-year-old Alphonse Linard.
Reports are that Linard and another logger, Sandyford Hermon, were working at the same location when the branch from a tree that he was cutting fell and punctured his skull.
Linard and Hermon were tasked with cutting the trees while two others were cleaning a track for a tractor to pull the logs.
Herman told Guyana Times that earlier in the day, Linard was having difficulty cutting his first tree, which was about 40 feet tall. However, he continued to cut until a dry branch fell on him. Due to his position, he was unable to take evasive action.
After the incident, the Police were summoned and the man’s motionless body was taken by boat to the Skeldon Hospital, six hours after. The now dead man had lived with one of his daughter’s at Siparuta and had worked as a tractor operator. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
