Logger nabbed as CANU/Police unearth more ganja fields

…over 2700 kg dried cannabis found

Police have detained a male logger following the discovery of multiple fields of marijuana cultivation at Hururu Backdam. This arrest came during what was described as a four-hour eradication operation in the Berbice River area where ranks destroyed several fields of cannabis cultivation with plants measuring from a foot to four feet in height. Police have also observed that two camps with kitchen utensils, clothing and groceries were also found and have been destroyed by fire together with the prohibited plants.

Meanwhile, another marijuana field was recently destroyed at 20 Miles, Millie’s Hideout, Upper Demerara, as E Division (Linden-Kwakwani) Police along with ranks of the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) continued a massive cannabis eradication exercise in the division.
This time around, a three-acre cannabis field was discovered with some 1000 cannabis plants. The plants were said to range from one foot to one and a half feet in height, with an estimated accumulated weight of about 1000 kilograms. Additionally, 2700 kilograms of dried cannabis was discovered.

A nursery was also found which contained about 2000 seedlings. Also discovered was a makeshift camp with four makeshift beds, mattresses, hammocks, kitchen utensils, clothing and groceries. Police said the items were destroyed by fire. No arrest has been made so far in connection with the discovery. Investigations are ongoing.
Several fields of marijuana have been destroyed recently at various points at Millie’s Hideout as Police beef-up a continuous drug eradication exercise. Recently, a farmer who hails from Kuru Kuru, Linden-Soesdyke Highway, was charged in connection to the cultivation of a quantity of marijuana at the location. Twenty-two-year-old Gabron Williams also called “Short Man” was charged with cultivating cannabis sativa, a prohibited plant. Williams was arrested by Police after he was reportedly discovered on a marijuana camp at 7 Miles, Millie’s Hideout during a drug eradication exercise by ranks attached to the Division. At the time of the discovery, he was allegedly tending to the marijuana plants. After being caught, the defendant reportedly led ranks to several other marijuana farms at the location.
