On Monday evening a driver was robbed of his motor car while his wife and a friend were reportedly robbed of a few items while they were hanging out in front of the Asha Supermarket at New Road, Vreed-en-Hoop, Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara).
The robbery occurred at about 21:15h.
In an interview with Guyana Times on Tuesday, the wife of the driver whose car was stolen explained that her husband was robbed of his motor car with registration number PRR 314.
The woman, Katija Saltaur, said while sitting at the business place, a man who was armed with a gun pulled up, held them at gunpoint and body searched them.
“He [the bandit] went to my husband and pat him down. By the time they turn to me, the grill by the supermarket was halfway open and the owner of the business place who is my friend slipped inside and locked the grill. She left her phone outside and he picked it up and he search me.”
“He carry away $20,000 and he jump in my husband’s car and he drive away with the car,” she explained.
The woman said the matter was immediately reported to the Police and they reached out to the media for assistance in finding the car. The following day, based on information received by Police, the woman, her husband, and the cops went to a house in Rasville, Georgetown, where the car was found.
“They take the car till over to Georgetown and when we go to the place, we in see nobody,” the woman said. So far, no one has been arrested for robbery, and Police have since launched an investigation.
