Police in ‘E’ Division (Linden-Kwakwani) are investigating an armed robbery perpetrated on the Esso Gas Station at Republic Avenue in Mackenzie, Linden.
Reports are that the incident occurred at about 10:30h on Sunday, when a lone gunman pounced on a female pump attendant. Guyana Times was told that the pump attendant was robbed of $13,419.
Information reaching this publication states that the pump attendant was selling kerosene to a customer when the suspect walked up behind her and requested to purchase $200 gasoline. The suspect handed the attended an empty bottle to put the fuel in, and as she handed it back to him, he whipped out a handgun and relieve the attendant of the cash. The gunman then escaped, and the pump attendant reported the robbery to the Police.
Meanwhile, Divisional Commander Linden Lord indicated that detectives have since reviewed surveillance footage from both sides of the gas station as well as from neighbouring business locations but came up empty-handed. He noted that employees on duty at the time were also questioned in relation to the incident and have indicated that they have no knowledge of what took place. Investigations are however ongoing, and Police are searching for a man of Amerindian ancestry in relation to the robbery.
