Well-played and classy half-centuries from Richie Looknauth, Norman Fredericks, and Orin Gibson highlighted the day of action as the Friends of Adams/Team Daniels South Essequibo Cricket Development Tournament got underway. All matches were played at the Golden Fleece Ground under strict COVID-19 guidelines.
In match number one, the Jaguars defeated Golden Fleece Under-19 by 49 runs. The Jaguars won the toss and opted to bat; they posted a total of 121-3 in 12 overs. Top-scoring was Gibson with 66 (4×4, 3×6), while Rayon DeCosta made 20 not out (2×6) and Shaieed Khan 16. In reply, Golden Fleece could only produce 72-8 in their 12 overs; scoring for them were Rohan Persaud (19 – 2×4, 1×6); Jarred Allicock (17 – 2×4). Bowling for the Jaguars were Fezal Mohamed (3-6) and Anthony Osborne (2-21).
In match number two, NOC thrashed Scheme Gunners by seven wickets. Gunners won the toss and batted first, scoring 110-4 in 12 overs. Leading the way was Fredericks with 79 not out (7×6, 2×4). Royan “Norwayne” Fredericks made 16, while Keon Davis bagged 2-18 for NOC. In reply, NOC raced to 112-3 in 9.2 overs. Leading the batting was Mark Gonsalves (43 – 3×4, 3×6), with Reaz Mohamed scoring 35 not out (1×4, 4×6) and Kevon Boodie 22 (3×6). Spearheading the bowling for the opposition was Matthew Pellow (2-24).
In the final match ,Venom duked it out with Crown Xi and won by 80 runs. Venom won the toss and batted first, posting 156-5 in 15 overs. Top-scoring was Looknauth (61 – 5×6, 3×4), with support from Romario Mohabir (43 – 6×6) and David Williams (22 – 1×6, 1×4). Bowling were Mahendra Raj (2-21) and Ramsingh Tajbally (2-23). In the end, Crown XI could only manage 76-10 in 11.1 overs. Putting up some resistance for them were Besham Dasrat (21 – 3×6) and Shannon Jagmohan (16 – 1×6, 1×4). Leading the bowling for Venom were Looknauth (3-6); Sachin Persaud (3-18) and Ramkisson Seeram 2-6.
