Lovell leads East Bank to victory over West Demerara

With the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Under-15 Inter-County two weeks away, the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) continued to prepare their players.
The second-round matches that were played at Lusignan and Everest saw East Bank Demerara and Georgetown registering wins in the respective encounters.
The talented all-rounder, Taddeus Lovell continued his consistency in the two matches he played, scoring a brilliant 60 to lead the East Bank team past West Demerara at Everest. Zachary Jodah was the chief destroyer with the ball when East Bank completed a 95-run win.
East Bank v West Demerara
With early-morning rain in the capital city; at the Everest Cricket Club, the Mavindra Dindyal-led East Bank team won the toss and opted to bat. They chalked up 149 in 35.1 overs in the reduced 42 overs match. Lovell, who scored 31 in the first round, produced a masterful innings of 60, including 11 boundaries. His sparkling innings concluded when he was caught by Reneldo Hussain off the
bowling of Sachin Balgobin.
Jodah played the supporting role chipping in with 25 and Joash Charles scored 16. Bowling for West Demerara, Nityanand Mathura was the most effective bowler, capturing 4-14, while Sachin Balgobin took 3-15.
In pursuit of East Bank’s 150, West Demerara struggled their way to a mere 55 all out in 21.1 overs, losing by 95 runs. In their poor batting display, Alex Parah was the only batsman to reach double figures, with 11.
Bowling for East Bank, left-arm spinner Jodah claimed 3-7, while right-arm fast bowler Charles had 2-14 bowling from the northern end. Off-spinner Dhanesh Persaud took 2-7 while the gifted Lovell returned with the ball and bowled with pace, capturing 1-15.
East Coast Demerara v Georgetown
Meanwhile, in the Lusignan clash, East Coast won the toss and opted to bat, scoring 93 all out in 44.2 overs. It was a large outfield, but the batsmen played reckless shots, threw their wickets away and were dropped on a few occasions.
Only Niranjan Sheopersaud (17*) and Shiv Singh (16) were effective with bat in hand. Bowling for Georgetown, Avinash Rajkumar, Rayad Latif and Krisna Singh grabbed two wickets each. Alvin Mohabir and Shaylian Walters aided in the complete bowling performance, collecting one wicket each.
In pursuit of 94 for victory, Georgetown reached the target in the 44th over of their innings, ending on 94-3. Jodon Campbell top-scored with 29, while Alvin Mohabir chipped in with an unbeaten 21. Bowling for East Coast, Nicholas Sheopersaud grabbed 1-17. Josh Alves, who has a twin brother in the team, finished with 1-12 while Shiv Singh had 1-7, in a match that saw Georgetown completing a seven-wicket win.
On Friday, the final round will be held, with East Bank meeting Georgetown at Everest Ground while East Coast will compete against West Demerara at Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) Ground. All matches will commence from 09:00h local time.
