Leguan defeats Bartica-Wakenaam Combine

The Guyana Cricket Board/ Demerara Mutual Life Assurance Society/ Ministry Of Education/ National Secondary School Cricket League (GCB/DMLAS/MOE/NSSCL) continued on Thursday with action in both the Inter School and Combine School phases.

At the Albion Community Centre Ground, Lower Corentyne were home to last year’s National Inter School champions, Chase Academy. However, Chase Academy seemed somewhat unprepared for the challenge, when Lower Corentyne having won the toss, invited the champions to bat first.

Chase Academy were mesmerized by the Berbice pitch and ground conditions, as well as their penetrative bowling, and apart from Dwayne Dick 32 and Garrick Persaud 27, struggled to make any great impact with the bat, eventually folding on 107 for 8 form their allotted 30 overs. Bowling for Lower Corentyne, Kevlon Anderson grabbed 2 for 11 from 6 of his off spin overs, while Vijay Gopilal took 2 for 26.

In reply, Lower Corentyne reached their victory target of 108 for the loss of just 4 wickets, with Kevlon Anderson blazing 61 from 76 ball, and Junior Sinclair contributing 33.

Lower Corentyne won by 6 wickets, to dethrone last year’s National Inter School League Champions, Chase Academy and to earn the right to do battle with West Demerara Secondary School in the GCB/DMLAS/MOE/NSSCL Inter School Finals on Friday 24 March, 2017 at the Georgetown Cricket Club ground, Bourda from 11:00 hours.

Over at the Tuschen ground Bartica-Wakenaam Combine batted first but could only muster 113 all out in 27 .5 overs of their allotted 50 overs. Bowling East Bank Essequibo-Leguan, Azim Mohammed grabbed 4 for 24 off 7 overs, and Chandrashakar Narine 3 for 10 from 4 overs.

In reply, East Bank Essequibo-Leguan combine reached their target in 23.1 overs to end with 116 for 6. Batting for East Bank Essequibo-Leguan Sukhdade Singh 23 and Malcolm Caesar 22.
