After spending two weeks in Berbice, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), the Limited Resources Teachers Training (LRTT) has extended their arms to host a four-day teachers’ workshop in Georgetown, by providing a model of high-quality,
low-cost teacher training.
Guyana Times had previously reported that the Education Ministry, along with the School of the Nations (Guyana) had partnered with the international organisation to provide teachers’ workshops, where 130 local teachers were expected to benefit. Training is based on tested strategies which use international best practices while considering local challenges and contexts.
As the workshop concluded at the School of the Nations’ New Amsterdam, Berbice branch last Friday, which benefited 40 teachers, the team of 25 foreign teachers on Tuesday kick-started the second leg of the programme at the School of the Nations in Georgetown, located on New Market Street, Georgetown. The team, which originated from the United States of America, United Kingdom and the Middle East, arrived in Guyana on July 25 last to facilitate a three week training programme.
LRTT not only seeks impart wisdom to?the teachers of Guyana but also gain knowledge and understanding from the local people.
“We believe every mind has the ability to grow and we hope to contribute to the growth of the mindset of the teachers of Guyana,” one overseas teacher said.
Annually, during the month of August, professional teachers volunteer and travel in groups to various developing and underdeveloped countries to assist children and local teachers. Participants are awarded certificates upon successful completion of the programme.
The workshop concludes on Friday, August 4, 2017 and a total of 90 teachers are expected to benefit from the programme.
