The newly formed Lusignan East Cricket Club had a mixed bag last weekend when action in the East Coast Cricket Committee competitions continued.
In their third round match of the 40-over competition, Lusignan East CC beat the previously unbeaten and well-established Fairfield Cricket Club by five runs. Playing at the Fairfield ground, the visitors batted first and got to 121 before they were bowled in 19.4 overs.
Hiradeo Jailal made an attacking 77 and got useful support from his brother, Ramchand Jailal with 14. National youth player, Trevon Charles with 3-19 from five overs and Deon Lovell with 3-33 from six overs shared six wickets to break the back of Lusignan East batting.
In reply, the home team found the bowling of Ayube Sammy (4-47) and Khemraj Jailal (3-7) too much to handle and eventually folded for 116 from 23.1 overs. Alex Marshall top scored with 39 while L. Trgonchandru made 18.
However, in their second match of the busy weekend Lusignan East CC went down to Enterprise Cricket Club “A” team by a whopping 167 runs at the Enterprise Community Centre ground. The hosts batted first and thanks to a brave 151 from Vivian Albert they managed to tally 318/6 from their 40 overs. Arif Habib weighed in with 70 as the pair crashed the ball to all parts of the ground.
Only Travis Persaud with 2-39 from his eight overs looked threatening for Lusignan East who then folded for 151 from 24 overs to complete the one-sided match. Hiradeo Jailal’s good form continued with a solid innings of 44 while Travis Persaud came back with the bat to support with 41. For the victors, Rohan Mangal picked up 3-15.
In their final fixture, Lusignan East beat Golden Achievers by 39 runs. Lusignan East had first strike and got to 136/9 in allotted 27 overs after the game was reduced. Their total was built around Ayube Sammy with 30 not out, Hiradeo Jailal 29 and Roy Singh who made 20. Bowling for Golden Achievers Ronald Wolford bagged 4-15 and O. Gardener 3-25.
Chasing a small total, Golden Achievers entertained thoughts of a victory but could not negotiate the let-arm spin of Ramchand Jailal (4-19), his nephew Vidyanand Jailal (2-11) and the experienced Ayube Sammy (2-26) and were bundled out for a meagre 97. Kevin Da Silva showed some amount of fight with 29 while K. Roberts made15.
The competition continues this weekend.
