Lusignan labourer gets 8 months on ammo possession charge

Twenty-one-year-old Vishnu Persaud, a labourer of Lusignan, East Coast Demerara (ECD), was on Monday sentenced to eight months’ imprisonment on a possession of ammunition charge.

Persaud was arrested on Friday last by a rank attached to the Vigilance Police Station and charged with possession of ammunition without licence, contrary to Section 16 (2) (a) of the Firearms Act, Chapter 16:05.
However, he appeared at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Fabayo Azore on Monday where the charge was read to him. He reportedly pleaded guilty and as such, the sentence was imposed by the presiding Magistrate.
