An inmate of the Lusignan Prison was on Tuesday evening killed following a brawl in the Holding Bay area at the facility.
Dead is 31-year-old Jason Dundas of Ann’s Grove, East Coast Demerara.
Based on reports received, the now dead man was attacked and chopped by two inmates at about 19:00h.
The injured man was reportedly chopped about the body. He was then picked up and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Dundas was remanded to prison in August 2019 for trafficking in narcotics. An investigation has been launched into the chopping incident.
On Monday, four prisoners escaped from the said facility by scaling the perimeter fence. The four men, including two murder suspects, remain at large as the Joint Services makes every effort to recapture them.
