An inmate of Lusignan Prison was on Sunday stabbed to death during a fight in Holding Bay 2 within the penitentiary. Dead is 23-year-old Eijad Mohamed Alli of Green Heart Street, McKenzie, Linden. He was on remanded for simple larceny committed on Ryan Richardson in May.
Police stated that at about 08:20h on Sunday, the now dead man was confronted by the three suspects who accused him of stealing an improvised weapon (jooker).
The weapon was eventually taken away from the victim by one of the suspects. This, however, led to a fight between Ali and one of the suspects during which he was stabbed several times to his lower right abdomen.

The injured man was taken to the Lusignan Prison Infirmary but due to the seriousness of the injuries, he was transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries while seeking medical attention at about 18:10h.
The man’s body is at the hospital’s mortuary awaiting a post-mortem.
In February, 40-year-old Victor Soomaru of Gordon Street, Kitty, Georgetown, who was serving time for possession of narcotics was struck to the head with a piece of brick by another inmate.
At the time of the incident, the now dead prisoner was wrapped in a towel and was asleep with another remanded prisoner in the same cell.
He was taken out of the unit and escorted to the prison’s infirmary where he was seen and treated by the medical personnel on duty.
However, he was later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital to seek further medical attention. Due to his injuries, he was admitted but succumbed to his injuries the following morning.
