Jamal Marcus Jr was on Tuesday sentenced to three years in prison and fined ,000 by Magistrate Clive Nurse after he was found guilty of being in possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
The defendant, who hails from Lot 789 Determa Street, Mackenzie, Linden, entered a not-guilty plea to the charge which stated that on Monday, June 6, 2016, he had 38 grams of cannabis sativa in his possession while at Ituni Village, Upper Demerara.
According to the prosecution’s facts, on the day in question about 08:30h, the defendant was observed by Police acting in a suspicious manner in public which subsequently led to his apprehension. The facts also stated that the defendant identified himself and a search was conducted of his body which led to the discovery of a black plastic bag, which contained the leaves, seeds and stems of the cannabis sativa plant, concealed in his crotch. He was then arrested, told of the offence committed, and later charged.
