Machinery Corporation of Guyana (MACORP) recently reassured the golf fraternity as well as the Lusignan Golf Club (LGC) of its perpetual support for the development of the sport going forward.
During Wednesday’s launch of the 13th annual MACORP Open tournament, new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Guillermo Escarraga said during his remarks that the company was committed to golf. Under former MACORP Head Jorge Medina, who retired from his post a few months back, the sport as well as the LGC Course underwent big transformations.
Now Medina’s successor, who was introduced to the sport by his former boss and clubmate, has confirmed that the relationship and the overall drive to put golf on the map would continue into the foreseeable future.
“We have been working with the LGC over the years and we’ve seen the development of golf in Guyana. This year we’ve decided to throw our support behind the Club, because we see that there is a lot of potential for golf, not only Guyanese but for foreigners who come and want to be part of this,” Escarraga said during Wednesday’s launching.
The machinery giant had been behind the LGC for a while, but had really gotten into the core of refurbishing Guyana’s lone golf course, around this time last year when Medina donated millions in machinery equipment to aid in the drainage and irrigation project.
LGC President Aleem Hussain recently told Guyana Times Sport that he was happy with the prolonged relationship with MACORP, whom he believes was deserving of all the credit. He noted that were it not for the company’s kindness, then golfers would have not been able to play throughout the year while the course’s unstable condition might have gotten worse.
Escarraga, one of Guyana’s top golfers and winner of a few tournaments this year, believes that the sport brings individuals together. He also urged persons to get more involved with golf as he further advised the public to come out and support this weekend’s big event.
“Golf is a sport that brings about the best in every player and we really embrace the camaraderie that we enjoy at the golf course. We want to put a lot of emphasis in this tournament, we want to make it big for everybody to enjoy,” ended the CEO. (Clifton Ross)
