Local pro golfer and MACORP executive Guillermo Escarraga believes Saturday’s 11th annual Invitational tournament will help shape the landscape for future golfers in Guyana.
Escarraga, the Product Support Manager of MACORP told Guyana Times Sport recently that his company’s sole goal was to prepare an environment suitable for the growth of the sport which will demographically target a younger age range.
“What we (MACORP) want to do is to make a golf contribution here in Guyana, we know people love golf here and we want to ensure we provide good conditions. We have a few employees who are golfers that enjoy the sport and through our contribution and sponsorship. We say to them it’s a good way to improve yourself and have a good hobby and this is how MACORP embraces golf in Guyana,” said Escarraga.
Winner of the best Net score in the recently concluded Guyana Open Cup tournament, Escarraga exalted the executive arm of the Lusignan Golf Club (LGC) for ensuring the Fairways at Lusignan are in the best condition to date.
He pointed out that due to their common goal; which is to see golf being played by more youths, MACORP as such have indicated their support to the LGC in the future and hoped that more Guyanese would take up the sport.
The Manager further applauded the executives for opening up the fraternity to the younger generation, as it mirrors that of company’s foremost goals; which is to ensure that more youths across the country are fully integrated with the sport.
From a playing perspective, the pro golfer who will be participating in the invitational said that he was poised heading onto the Greens this Saturday, adding that MACORP as a company were truly upbeat about their premier event playing a role in the continued growth of golf.
More importantly, Escarraga said that it was the inclusion of the three schools; Bishops High, St Roses and Queen’s College in the Guyana Open Cup which has shown the executive at MACOPR that the LGC were indeed serious about targeting the younger generation of Guyanese, hence the reason for signaling their support for future events.
The 11th annual MACORP Invitational will feature a number of top local and a few overseas golfers with tee off set for 12:30h at the Lusignan Golf Course. (Clifton Ross)
