Madray, Duncan, Persaud emerge as 2021 National Champions in Archery Guyana’s Indoor Championships

After a postponement last year, Archery Guyana’s Seven Seas Indoor Championships 2021 were held at the Muslim Youth Organisation (MYO) on Woolford Avenue and Albert Street over two nights starting Tuesday, February 15, 2022 with the Ranking Rounds, which determined the pairing of archers for the competitive elimination shootout on Thursday, February 17, 2022.

Archers were keenly awaiting the exciting 18-Metre Indoor Championships for men and women of all ages in two categories: Recurve and Barebow.

For the Recurve competition, Samira Duncan took first place (gold medal) and Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon received the second spot. The men’s side was heavily contested and Umasankar Madray ranked supreme earning the coveted gold medal, with Jeewanram Persaud in second place (silver medal) and Fabian Ramdatt receiving third place (bronze medal).

For the Barebow competition, Persaud finished top (gold medal) followed by Nicholas Hing with second place (silver medal) and Sean Duncan, third place (bronze medal).

The competition was successfully conducted under supervision of the Director of Shooting, Ryan McKinnon and the Competitions Committee together with the Chair of the Judges Committee, Robert Singh and his team of nationally- certified judges. The competition was customised to meet strict COVID-19 guidelines.
The annual indoor championships were sponsored by Seven Seas and the archers were kept hydrated by Archery Guyana’s sponsor Oasis Water. Especially available to participants and spectators at the event was Guyana Beverages Inc’s new sports drink, Altitude, which contains sodium, potassium and magnesium and comes in three flavours – Fruit Punch, Grape and Blue Frost. Altitude replaces electrolytes lost through sweat.
