Mae’s School has partnered with D&R Construction and Machinery Rental to establish Mae’s Spartan for the upcoming Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) T10 Tournament, in what the Board describes as the first school partnership to participate in a senior county cricket competition.

The franchise is the sixth confirmed for the eight-team tournament, scheduled for November 22 at the LBI Ground. The competition will raise funds to support the continued development of youth and female cricket across Demerara.
Mae’s Spartan joins Premier Insurance, Mike’s Tynor XI, Navin’s Construction Lusignan Bulls, Young Rivals and the Guyana Police Force among the confirmed franchises.
Speaking at a presentation ceremony on the lawns of Mae’s School, DCB Vice President Puneet Jaigopaul thanked the sponsors and welcomed the school’s involvement. He described the partnership as a progressive development that could encourage more educational institutions to participate in organised cricket.
Jaigopaul emphasised that fundraising for youth and female cricket is the tournament’s primary purpose, with support from schools and businesses helping the Board advance its development plans.
The DCB also commended David Sugrim, owner of D&R Construction and Machinery Rental, for investing in the franchise and supporting the initiative. The Board said such partnerships are important to sustaining cricket development and creating more opportunities for young players.
Sugrim expressed his pleasure at joining forces with Mae’s School and securing a franchise. He noted that the institution has been encouraging its students and other young people to take part in cricket and other sports.
The Board hopes the collaboration will inspire similar arrangements between schools and businesses, strengthening their shared contribution to the development of the game.
Play on November 22 will begin at 10:00h and continue under lights. Admission to the LBI Ground will cost GY$1000.
Each franchise must register a 15-player squad, with at least 12 players from Demerara and no more than three from outside the county. Squads must also include two Under-19 players, with at least one selected in the playing XI.
