Home News Magistrates’ Courts security worker charged for cellphone theft
A security guard attached to the Grant’s Security Service who operates at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts was on Friday placed before the said Court charged for allegedly stealing from his colleague.
Travis Clarke, 21, of Lot 101 D Field, Sophia, Greater Georgetown, appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman and pleaded not guilty to the offence.
It is alleged that on September 29, 2017 at the Court, he stole one LG cellphone valued ,000, property of Roweena David.
According to Police Prosecutor Shawn Gonsalves the defendant was being relieved by the Virtual Complainant (VC) from his shift.
However, the defendant requested time to change his clothing, so the VC placed her bag, which contained her phone in the guard hut, and allowed Clarke to do so.
He then left for home and when the VC checked her bag for her phone, she noticed that it was missing. As such, the matter was reported, and the defendant was picked up and charged with theft.
Magistrate Latchman granted Clarke bail in the sum of ,000 and ordered that he return to Court today.
