Former national Under-19 cricketer Khemraj Mahadeo is tipped to be named Cricketer-of-the-Year when the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTY&SC) hosts its 26th annual awards ceremony at its headquarters on April 17.
In 2015, Mahadeo was outstanding with both the ball and bat for the Rose Hall Town Bakewell Second Division team and is expected to head the 43 awardees to be honoured for outstanding performance and service to the club.
Patron of the club, His Excellency President David Granger, would deliver the feature address and assist in the presentation of awards. RHTY&SC President Keith Foster, Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster and immediate past Patron Beverly Harper would also be part of the ceremony. Harper is set to receive the highest award of the RHTY&SC, the Dolphin Award of Excellence, for her outstanding contribution over the years.
Among the awardees would be female cricketers Shemaine Campbelle and Erva Giddings, along with junior cricketers Kevlon Anderson, Junior Sinclair, Keith Simpson, Brandon Prashad, Chanderpaul Govindan and Slyus Tyndall. Long standing executives, members and founders of the club, Keith Hicks and Ravindranauth Kissoonlall, would also be specially honoured.
Club Secretary/CEO, Hilbert Foster, disclosed that unlike the past where over $2 million worth of prizes and trophies were shared out, the magnitude of prizes would be reduced. This is as a result of a management decision to invest more of the club’s finance into its cricket development programme for youths and the Berbice-wide ‘Say No to Suicide’ campaign.
Meanwhile, Lens Craft Optical of South Road, Georgetown, and the management of F&H Printery have come on board with financial contributions towards the awards ceremony. Alstair Parris of Lens Craft and Hakim Hakh of F&H Printery both stated that they are long standing supporters of Guyana’s leading youth and sports organisation and disclosed that their companies were pleased to be associated with the national awardee organisation. Foster expressed gratitude to the two companies for their support and noted that it would assist the club to honour its outstanding members and executives.
