Mahaica Determinators continued to impress in the 2nd annual Petra Organised Limacol Round-robbin Knock-out Football Tournament as they defeated Camptown 3-2 on Saturday evening at the Victoria Community Centre Ground, East Coast of Demerara.

Neil Lynton goals in the 16th minute which was followed by another on the 36th. However, the City side were determined to make their presence felt, as Joel Juman scored a first half injury time goal (45+2) to reduce the lead.

As the Campbellville unit began to produce a more attacking flair as Andy Parks produced the equaliser in the 63rd. Though a draw would have been enough for Mahaica to qualify, Devon Harris netted in the 75th to secure the hard fought victory.

In the other match, Den Amstel ensured their unbeaten run was kept intact as they inflicted a 4-1 hammering into Ann’s Grove which knocked the East Coast Unit out of the competition due to Santos having a superior goal difference.

Delon Lanferman immediately etched his name on the score sheet with a goal in the 1st minute followed by another in the 6th. Gideon Payne then made it three goals in the first half when he netted in the 45th.

Phillip Williams brought a consolation goal for the “home team” in the 76th but Payne tapped another in the goal in the 90+2 for the resounding victory.

Last evening at the McKenzie Sports Club Ground, the tournament had it last of the round-robin matches, with the action now moving into the quarter-final stage.

As incentive for teams to top respective groups, the winner of each group will receive $100,000 while the remaining teams will pocket $50,000, $30,000 and $20,000 apiece in order of placing.

Winner of the event will pocket $500,000 and a trophy while the second, third and fourth placed teams will receive $300,000, $200,000 and $100,000 respectively and the corresponding accolade.

To date, Banks DIH Limited under the GT Beer Brand, Trophy Stall and Star Party Rentals are the other companies that have thrown their support behind the championship.
