A 36-year-old miner who allegedly attempted to rape his former employer is currently battling for his life at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) after he was shot three times by the woman.
Reports are that late on Thursday night, the now wounded man was imbibing at his former employer’s premises at Mahdia, Region Eight (Potaro-Siparuni). Reports are at about 00:45h on Friday morning, the man sneaked into the woman’s mining camp and then entered her sleeping area as she was asleep. He allegedly attempted to remove her underwear when she woke up and reached for her firearm, which was in close range. The woman fired three shots towards her perpetrator. He received gunshot wounds to his stomach and arms.
The police were subsequently contacted and the woman, who is a licensed firearm holder, informed the cops that she shot the man in self-defence.
The suspect was rushed to the Mahdia Hospital but as a result of the extent of his injuries, he was air-dashed to the city and taken to the GPHC where his condition has been listed as critical.
Meanwhile, the businesswoman is assisting Police with investigations.
Just last month, a 46-year-old miner was hauled before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, charged for engaging in sexual intercourse with a woman without her consent on August 10, 2018.
Odingo Emanuel also known as “Dingo” of Bamadai Landing, was not required to plea to the charge when it was read to him by Chief Magistrate Ann MacLennan.
The matter was held in-camera.
Bail was granted in the sum of $250,000 and the matter was then transferred to the Kamarang Magistrate’s Court.
