Maintenance worker charged for robbing UG student

Remanded: Tavel Jones

After allegedly being pointed out during an identification parade, 23-year-old Tavel Jones of East La Penitence, Georgetown, was taken before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts for the offence of armed robbery committed on a student of the University of Guyana.
The father of one appeared before Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus and denied the charge which stated that on June 19, 2019, at South Ruimveldt, Georgetown, while in the company of another and armed with a gun, he robbed Stephon Dass of two Samsung cellular phones valued $145,000. Prosecutor Adduni Inniss objected to bail being granted on the grounds of the prevalence of the offence and the penalty it attracts, as well as the fact that he was identified by the victim during an ID parade.
Magistrate Isaacs-Marcus refused bail for the maintenance worker and adjourned the case for July 19, 2019.
