The Majek Fingers Drumming School will host its first drumming educational workshop scheduled for Sunday, February 26, at the National Dance Company, National Park, Georgetown.

This workshop will feature Master Drummer Mark Sirous as the drumming instructor. The workshop will be based on inspiring and educating 20 drummers about basic techniques of drumming, hand patterns, rhythms, and the history and art of drumming in Guyana.mAJEK fINGERS

As the Majek Fingers Drumming School celebrates its 7th anniversary, the organistation sees the workshop as an excellent opportunity to continue promoting culture and art throughout our country. To make their first workshop a dynamic success, cultural groups in Guyana are encouraged to participate.

Orlando Primo, Founder of the Majek Fingers Drumming School which came into being in 2010, set the Drumming School’s mission to provide a culturally focused educational support to the Guyanese music community. He believes that every member of the Majek Fingers’ team understands the role of cultural behaviours and sustainment of musical art.

This understanding permeates every action its members take to promote the art of drumming. The initiatives in the school’s strategic plan are targeted towards creating a cultural transformation whereby understanding; support and education are the principal focus of everything we do.

The workshop will commence at 15:00h sharp.
